Entering its second year of outreach, Arms Around Family Caregivers is excited to announce its second annual Pillar of Strength Award program. Arms Around Family Caregivers is a program sponsored by SYNERGY HomeCare and dedicated to promoting encouragement and education of family caregivers across the nation. The program offers informational resources via its monthly newsletter and regularly updated blog. Seasonal programs such as the Pillar of Strength Award are outlets for Arms Around Family Caregivers to make a difference in the lives of individual family caregivers.
The Pillar of Strength award is given every year in November and is designed to give one winning family caregiver a fresh start. The winning family caregiver will receive any products or service that will make their life easier such as respite care, medical alarm systems, courtesy phone calls, and consumer products determined while coordinating the fresh start.
This year’s Pillar of Strength program will begin on September 1, 2011 and will continue through November 4 when the winning family caregiver is announced. Through a customized Facebook application, family caregivers will be able to share their own accounts of family caregiving with Arms Around Family Caregivers as well as their own friends and family. Supporters of family caregivers may also share the family caregiving stories of their loved ones. Stories will be re-published across the SYNERGY HomeCare Facebook community. Based on the stories provided, SYNERGY HomeCare will choose the Pillar of Strength award winner.

"We’re excited about the Facebook page", says SYNERGY HomeCare media specialist Kate Hubbard. "We will be able to give direct encouragement to everyone who submits a story. We care about family caregivers, and this is the best place to show it.
In the conjunction with the Pillar of Strength Award is the availability of SYNERGY HomeCare’s Life Time Learning program an online family caregiver education course. This educational course is free for a limited time and open to any interested family caregiver and covers important topics such as caring for a person with Alzheimer’s disease, using assistive devices and information on coping with the stress and emotional challenges of caregiving.
"Many family caregivers feel stressed and overwhelmed. They need a program to rely on for coping support, says SYNERGY HomeCare corporate representative and family caregiver Kitty Vradenburg. "We give them the encouragement and knowledge they need to keep on caring."
