Synergy emerges from giving assistance to those in need

When Barrington residents Ana and Diego Uribe were looking into owning their own business, they wanted a unique concept that fulfilled a need in the Barrington area.

They decided to franchise their own Synergy HomeCare office, 1250 Grove Ave., which provides in-home, non-medical care to individuals requiring daily living assistance.  Earlier this summer the Uribes opened the first Synergy location in Illinois.

“We both came from high-stress corporate careers and we wanted to find something more self-fulfilling,” Ana said.

Synergy provided assistance for families and people of all ages who need assistance because of illness, disability or other scenarios.

The Uribes have lived in Barrington for 22 years and said Synergy’s services include daily living companionship which includes medication reminders, getting mail, answering the phone and other daily tasks.  Other options include homemaker services such as light housekeeping, grocery shopping, cleaning and the personal care assistance where caretakers help people with hygiene, dressing and escorting to appointments and other locations.

“Hospitals and Hospice (of Northeastern Illinois) provide medical health care, but there wasn’t anything out there that provided quality non-medical care,” Ana said.

Diego said Synergy works with local hospitals, hospice and senior organizations to provide service 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“It’s a little bit of everything non-medical,” Ana said.  “We’re like a family that steps in when no one else is there.”

Diego said they employ a pool of 16 caregivers who have CPR training, first aid training and basic training on how to handle people with disabilities.

He said people throughout the northwest suburbs can contact them on an as-needed basis or for regularly schedule service.
