"It was truly a blessing that we found SYNERGY. The caregivers were trained on caring for dementia patients and were able to work with my mother, while another company just wasn't able to do the job. The caregivers are excellent. Savka in particular took the time to read the Bible to my mom daily, which was very important to her. They were extremely compassionate towards the end when my mom was approaching hospice, and did everything possible to  make her comfortable. Milena was frequently rubbing my mom's back and shoulders to help her ease discomfort. Kayla was always positive and attentive. Overall, great care! Thanks to Ruth and her team, my mom was able to pass away peacefully in her home! Truly blessed to have had the SYNERGY team!"  Jeff

Stay Safe During Heat Wave

Stay cool, hydrated, and informed during extreme heat

A Notice from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services

High temperatures are expected over much of Wisconsin during the next several days, and the Department of Health Services is reminding residents to take steps to stay cool during this heat wave.

can be dangerous and even deadly,” said Jeanne Ayers, State Health Officer. “During this heat wave, it’s important to stay cool and hydrated, and check weather conditions before heading outside.”

Follow these tips to stay safe during extreme heat:

  • Stay in air conditioning. When possible, stay in air conditioning on hot days. If you don’t have air conditioning, head to libraries, malls, and other public spaces to keep cool.
  • Check on loved ones. Be sure to check on older friends and neighbors who live alone and don’t have air conditioning.
  • Avoid going outside during the hottest part of the day. If you have to be outside, stick to the cooler morning and evening hours. Wear light, loose clothing and take frequent, air conditioned breaks.
  • Beware of hot cars. Never leave a person or a pet in a parked car, even for a short time. On an 80 degree day, the temperature inside a car can reach 100 degrees in less than 10 minutes.
  • Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water on hot days. Avoid alcohol and hot, heavy meals. Watch your local weather forecasts so you can plan outdoor activities safely. Pay attention to any extreme heat alerts.

Remember that . In Wisconsin, people ages 15-34 are the most likely to go to the emergency room for getting sick from the heat. No matter your age or how healthy you are, it’s important to stay cool and hydrated, and check the forecast before heading outside.

If you start feeling overheated, weak, dizzy, nauseated, or have muscle cramps, you could be experiencing heat illness. Move to air conditioning, drink water, get under a fan, and put on cool washcloths. If your symptoms worsen or don’t improve, go to the emergency room.

Honoring All Who Served

On May 23, 2019, SYNERGY HomeCare, the City of Greenfield, and Hometown Hospice and Home Care were again proud to honor veterans at a special ceremony and ice cream social. Veterans attending the event were individually recognized and presented with certificates of appreciation and pins.

To raise money for Fisher House Wisconsin (simply put a Ronald McDonald House for Veterans and their families), we raffled off a beautiful quilt made and donated by Joyce Weinert. Thanks to the generosity of those attending, a donation of $500 was made to Fisher House Wisconsin.

SYNERGY HomeCare Offering CNA Grant

“We know ongoing education and training not only improve the quality of care we provide our clients,” according to Ruth Busalacchi, owner, SYNERGY HomeCare, “they contribute to the success of our caregivers and their job satisfaction.”

Our caregivers are not required by law to be CNA certified. Approximately 60% of SYNERGY HomeCare's caregivers are CNA certified. Caregivers who are not certified and who have been employed with SYNERGY HomeCare for at least a year are now eligible to apply for a tuition grant to attend CNA training. Applicants are required to write an essay including why they are applying for the grant, how they will use the knowledge they gain, and why they should be awarded the grant. The grant recipient will, among other things, be expected to continue employment for at least two years. The grant is awarded annually.

Senior Scams: It’s OK to Hang Up

“It’s OK to hang up”, was Bob’s response when asked what he learned after SYNERGY HomeCare presented a senior scams program at his independent living community in Greenfield, WI. That is a popular response from seniors in other communities and senior centers where the program has been offered.

Seniors don’t want to be rude and they fear the repercussions of hanging up. That’s what scammers count on. The longer they can keep you on the phone, the greater the likelihood is they’ll get you to share personal and financial information.

To learn more about senior scams, including the IRS Scam and the Grandparents Scam, and to schedule a presentation, contact Enid at 414-763-8368.

“I can’t wait to share this information with my friends,” said Lorrie after a presentation at her senior center. “They need to know about the Grandparent’s Scam and that they shouldn’t open suspicious emails with links and attachments.”
